Cosgrove In Geneva To Attend World Economic Forum Global Leaders For Tomorrow Summit

Clayton Cosgrove, Labour Member of Parliament for Waimakariri is today attending the World Economic Forum Global Leaders for Tomorrow (GLT) Summit in Geneva, Switzerland. The Summit continues until Saturday 6th September.

Each year members of the World Economic Forum (WEF) nominate 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow and in 2001 Mr Cosgrove became the first New Zealand politician to be selected as one of the 100 Global Leaders for Tomorrow Class of 2002. He attended the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meetings in January 2002 in New York City, and in Davos, Switzerland in 2003. He also attended the GLT Summit this time last year.

The theme of this year’s GLT Summit is Leadership: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, and will explore the three dimensions of leadership: inspiration, creativity and wisdom.

At the Summit, Mr Cosgrove will meet with approximately 100 other GLTs, which will include Richard M. Smith - Chairman and Editor in Chief of Newsweek; Kenneth Orori-Atta - Executive Chairman of Databank Financial Services; and Jose A. Fourquet - Executive Director, USA, of the Inter-American Development Bank.

Mr Cosgrove will also be meeting with fellow members of the World Economic Forum’s Free Trade Task force, which he was appointed to in March last year.

The objective of the Task Force is to promote global trade liberalisation and encourage faster progress towards free trade as a means to increase wealth and reduce poverty throughout the world. Mr Cosgrove takes part in regular meetings with the coordinator, Mattew Cadbury, who is the former Chief Executive of Cadbury Schweppes Hudson, and other Task Force members who include Ian Goldin, the Director of Development Policy at the World Bank in Washington and David Kamenetzky, an Head of Corporate Communications at the leading investment firm Goldman Sachs in Germany.

“This is the second year I have attended the WEF Summit, and I am grateful for the opportunity to once again meet with fellow GLTs from around the world in order to bring back some new ideas to assist New Zealand”, Mr Cosgrove said. Mr Cosgrove’s GLT award is held for three years.

The GLT Summit meeting is a precursor to the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting to be held in Davos, Switzerland in February 2004 which Mr Cosgrove will also attend and participate in.
