49 days to go - Greens expose the missing links

New Zealand is not ready to lift the GE moratorium in 49 days, because the Government has not fully actioned the 49 Royal Commission recommendations, the Green Party says today.

"The Government is staking its claim it is ready for GE releases largely by saying it has implemented the 49 recommendations of the Royal Commission on Genetic Modification," Green Co-Leader Jeanette Fitzsimons said.

"But 49 days out from the moratorium expiry, and there are still huge gaps in what the Government committed itself to do."

Today the Green Party launches a Questions campaign in the House, exposing the recommendations that still haven't been implemented, and how unprepared New Zealand and the Government are for GE release.

"The Government should listen to the 68 per cent of New Zealanders who say we're not ready for GE releases into the environment. The Government should extend the moratorium another five years," Ms Fitzsimons said.
