Tighter Restrictions On Young Foreign Children

New Zealand First MP Dail Jones is putting a Private Members Bill forward for the next ballot calling for tighter restrictions on foreign children paying for primary level education.

The purpose of the Bill is to ensure that foreign children, as defined by the Education Act 1989, must be over the primary school age to be educated in New Zealand.

“We do not want young children here unless they have at least one parent living here as a permanent resident,” said Mr Jones.

“We should not be responsible for bringing up foreign children at an age when they need their parents looking after them.

“We must tighten up the relaxed laws towards educating foreign fee-paying children before the situation gets out of hand and we start getting children as young as five coming here, unsupervised, to get an education,” said Mr Jones.
