Dunne: Nats 'stunned mullets' as ACT moves in

United Future leader Peter Dunne, who weeks ago correctly picked that Rodney Hide would up the pressure on National by announcing a tilt at the Epsom seat at the next election, is now tipping Ruth Richardson to stand for ACT in Ilam.

"And I fully expect National to continue with it stunned mullet routine and say and do absolutely nothing.

"Perhaps the ACT game plan hasn't dawned on them, although at least two of their caucus - Richard Worth and Gerry Brownlee - will be paying a little more attention now," he said.

ACT has already announced it will stand candidates in Ohariu-Belmont and Wellington Central - "And if that's not an absolute challenge to National in seats they have previously done deals not to stand in, then what is?" Mr Dunne asked.

"Last month I advised Bill English to tell the voters what choice they will have, and now he's gone, so let's get some leadership on this from Don Brash - the public have a right to know.

"Dr Brash has frequently been described as ACT's ninth MP, so now it's time for him to let everyone know where he really stands and where he's going to take National."

Ends.
