ACT Leader Richard Prebble called for an informed open public debate before the government orders the Reserve Bank to intervene in the international currency market in an attempt to drive down the value of the Kiwi.

"In New Zealand hundreds of millions of dollars were lost before the dollar was allowed to float. Overseas countries have been beggared attempting to fix the value of their currency.

"Dr Cullen should make available all the government's information and advice it has received about what options, if any there are, to alter the value of the dollar before the government implements any attempt change the value of the dollar," Mr Prebble said.
