New Zealand First law and order spokesperson Ron Mark is again calling on the Parole Board to stop releasing dangerous criminals back into the community.

He was commenting on the case of violent offender Gregory Hunt being released on home detention after serving only six months of a four year prison sentence for stabbing a taxi driver 17 times with a carving fork and assaulting another.

“It is hard to understand how the Parole Board can release this man back into the community so early after committing such a violent crime,” said Mr Mark.

“The Parole Board has again shown that it is on the side of violent offenders and does not care about serving the interests of justice or ensuring the safety of the community.

“Releasing men like Hunt back into the community after serving only a fraction of his jail sentence for a savage attack shows the value the Parole Board places on victims.

“That value is obviously nil,” concluded Mr Mark.
