Hide Pledges To Represent Hardworking Taxpayers

ACT Leader Rodney Hide Pledges To Represent Hardworking Taxpayers

ACT Leader Rodney Hide today said it was imperative to build support for the ACT Party to ensure a free and prosperous New Zealand.

"It is a great honour to be an ACT MP, representing hardworking taxpayers of New Zealand - the people who pay for everything. It is an even greater honour to be chosen by ACT Party members and caucus to be Leader.

"ACT has a clear philosophy of individual freedom and personal responsibility, and is dedicated to making our great country better.

"We tirelessly campaign for freedom and prosperity. We know what we stand for.

"In choosing a successor to Richard Prebble, ACT has done what no other party could do. No other party would ask their members to vote for the next leader. We did and it has made us strong.

"Democracy works. It has been a rigorous process and has prepared us for the next election, which for ACT starts today.

"ACT must succeed. ACT must be in the next government to ensure that Don Brash doesn't have to compromise. ACT's success will ensure that Don Brash won't be held hostage by Winston Peters or Peter Dunne.

"The country needs Don Brash. Don Brash needs ACT.

"ACT is the only party that will ensure that no hardworking New Zealander will have to pay more than 20 cents in the dollar tax. The National Party has signed up to Helen Clark's top rate of tax of thirty-nine cents. We never will.

"We will be campaigning hard at the next election for a top rate of tax of 20 cents in the new Government's first budget.

"ACT has the best team in Parliament. We intend to put this team into Government. We intend to make New Zealand a freer, more prosperous and better country," Mr Hide said.
