Jim Anderton: NZ First unfit for government

NZ First unfit for government

"In my view, Winston Peters abused parliamentary privilege to bring the reputation of a judge, the police and a crime victim into disrepute - that is reckless and irresponsible" Progressive leader Jim Anderton said today.

"Mr Peters has not presented verifiable facts. His charge of political interference in police processes is an extraordinarily serious allegation. But it has been denied by the police and by all concerned, with no response from Mr Peters.

"Actually, I believe Mr Peters never had any real evidence and that he opportunistically thought he could get a headline.

"In parliamentary terms, that was the behaviour of a lout.

"But at least his conduct will assist parties and voters making choices at the next election," the Progressive leader said.

"Is this the kind of conduct that any responsible political party which aspires to govern New Zealand should engage in and should other political parties see NZ First as a serious option as a coalition partner? I would give a resounding no to both questions," Jim Anderton said.
