Adams: Business NZ needs to get real

The rigid right-wing ideologues of Business New Zealand have lost the plot, United Future's Paul Adams said today.

"You're talking babies and bathwater when you have a business lobby group attacking a political party for actually fixing the statutory holidays sick leave debacle and getting slammed for it," he said.

"United Future voted for the Holidays Amendment Bill because, while far from being perfect, it makes a small improvement to the overall situation," Mr Adams, United Future's employment and industrial relations spokesman, said.

"It is a step in the right direction, and that is what United Future does - work constructively on big issues and small.

"This clearly counts for nothing with Business New Zealand, which should front up and admit that, no matter what, they will slavishly adhere to far right doctrine.

Business New Zealand needs to take a long hard look at whose interests it really serves, Mr Adams said.

"Why is this organisation not asking why other parties didn't vote for a Bill that actually fixes something business has been in an uproar about?

"When will this organisation actually start doing its job? Business New Zealand needs to get real," he said.
