Humour Lessons: Robson Writes To DomPost

Humour Lessons: Robson Writes To DomPost

Dear Mr Pankhurst

Offer of free lessons in developing a sense of humour

Your reporter and sub-editor obviously need a lesson in developing a sense of humour. It is a necessary part of day-to-day functioning and helps prevent stress-related diseases.

Yesterday I was rung by your reporter asking about Communist Party membership. My comments were to show that the finger-pointing Richard Prebble still had not caught up with the fact that the Cold War was officially declared over with the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. No wonder he no longer leads Act if he is that out of date.

From memory I said, using irony and exaggeration, that of course I was a card-carrying member, dedicated to the triumph of the proletariat and the overthrow of Western civilisation as we know it. You chose to print that as “Matt Robson confirmed he was a member of the Communist Party,” in a situation when no fair and reasonable person could have taken that view.

For the record, I am not and was never a member of the long-since defunct Communist Party.

Yours sincerely

Hon Matt Robson MP
Progressive Deputy Leader
