Tana Umaga Speaks As Education Ambassador

Tana Umaga announced as an Education Ambassador.

The Minister of Education has launched an information programme targeted at families and parents, for which Tana Umaga will be an ambassador for education taking the key messages of the programme out to parents.

"As an ambassador for education, I will use my influence to communicate the important role parents can play in their children's education.

"The coming information programme to show parents how they can help their children is a perfect fit for me.

"I'm a parent of three young children myself, two of whom are at school.

"I feel that the role of parents in their children's education is very important and that's why I am endorsing the programme.

"It's something I've done a bit of during the past four years in my role as a trustee of a youth mentoring programme in the Wellington region. I've found my involvement with students, their parents and teachers really rewarding.

"After my family, my first commitment is obviously to New Zealand rugby. During the next few months I will work with the Ministry of Education to help develop the parent information programme, which is expected to be launched at the end of this year.

"I'm looking forward to my involvement with this programme, and I hope all students, parents and teachers throughout New Zealand will too.

"I'm happy to be part of the New Zealand education team."
