Rankin Petition

PSA Media Release
20 June 2001

Rankin Petition

After deliberately choosing not to get embroiled in this matter, the PSA is appalled to find that its members have been dragged into Christine Rankin's claim for damages against the Crown.

The PSA understands the petition calling for support for Christine Rankin was circulated by some staff including some managers.

"The PSA has had complaints of stand over tactics. Some staff who did not sign the petition have been asked by some managers why the didn't sign it. Other staff have told us they felt coerced into signing it, said Richard Wagstaff, PSA National Secretary.

The PSA does not believe that under these circumstances the petition can be seen as a true measure of support.

Members want to get on with their jobs, instead of having their energies diverted into this matter.
