No GE For Us Thanks!

"As it stands, GE is being harnessed by multi-nationals to line their own pockets. There is absolutely no thought of the public in the minds of those currently controlling GE research and its release, and this must change before GE can even be considered in NZ," said Julie Fairey.

Staunch Alliance has adopted a GE Free policy, supporting an indefinite extension of the current moratorium on field trials, and no release of GE into the environment. They are, however, in favour of GE for medical research, as long as it is performed in secure laboratories at public institutions, and thus able to be held publicly accountable.

"We will be fighting for a GE Free approach both within the Alliance and on the streets, supporting GE Free Rallies around the country this Saturday," said Sean Gourley National Co-Spokesperson. "The Christchurch Staunch group will be following up their successful GMO Detection Road-Trip through the pastoral reaches between Canterbury and Dunedin with strong attendance at the Christchurch GE Free Rally, 12noon Cathedral Square."

"Auckland Staunch will be joining other Alliance members at the Auckland rally, 12noon, QE2 Square with a brilliant new banner, hoping to be amongst thousands of Aucklanders who stand up to say NO! to GE in NZ," said Ms Fairey.
