National Socialists Renounce Medicine Free Market

PRESS RELEASE from Libertarianz

National Socialists Renounce Free Market In Medicine

"Lynda Scott's calls for taxpayer subsidisation of a new and very expensive drug for Alzheimer's disease will deprive others of medical care," said Libertarianz health deregulation spokesman Richard McGrath.

"That's the legacy of zero-sum economics in health care. If taxpayer funds are used to buy this new drug, someone else will be charged more for their medicines.

"That's the system that both National and Labour socialists have adhered to for the last seventy years. They tax you, then ration out the dollars to whichever pressure group screams the loudest. Someone always has to miss out."

"Politicians should stop meddling in the private health care of New Zealanders," he added. "Let people make provision for their own medical or other treatment if they want to. If they choose not to insure themselves or put money aside for their future health needs, why should others be made to bail them out?

"A fortune is being spent salvaging people who have deliberately sabotaged their own health, frittering their money away on cigarettes, booze and Lotto tickets.

"Money is removed, by force, from the pockets of people who are struggling to raise families and put money aside for their own needs, in order to keep these bludgers alive. Where is the justice in that?

"While I have every sympathy for those patients afflicted with Alzheimer's disease," McGrath added, "what has stopped these people from being able to put money aside over their lifetime to purchase supplies of this drug?

"What indeed, but the myriad of taxes which serve to disempower all except the politically connected."
