Animal Rights Activists Prepare to Disrupt Bio-Tech Conference

This Friday, the 16th of November, Hamilton Animal Rights Defense will be protesting against a bio-technology conference, being held at the Performing Arts Centre at the Waikato University.

The conference, entitled Bio-Technology to Bio-Commerce to Bio-Business will be breaking for lunch at around noon on Friday, and Hamilton Animal Rights Defense have organised to meet the exiting attendees with signs, banners, drums and noise makers

Michael Wise, from Hamilton Animal Rights Defense said the conference was based solely on the idea of profits over anything else.

“The scientists are no longer trying to hide the fact they are willing to exploit animals, the environment and humans for the sake of money.

In fact they have actually organised a conference with the idea of profit over lives in mind. The amount of potential profit does not wipe away the fact that animals have the right to be GE free.”

Several notorious animal researchers will be coming to the conference from around the country, including Dr. Alan Crawford, from AgResearch Invermay, who researches animal genomics, mainly relating to deer, and Dr. Kevin Marshall, from the Dairy Board, and ViaLacti, both of which back the research into the genetic engineering of cows for the purpose of creating new ways to profit from their milk.

The sudden upsurge in bio-tech, and vivisection conferences being held in Hamilton is an alarming event.

Hamilton has recently been host to a bio-technology conference only a month ago.

This added with the ANZCCART conference earlier this year has animal rights activists angered.

“We will soon be entering a campaign to make sure these abusers of animals, the environment and humans no longer consider Hamilton to be a safe place to have conferences.”, says Michael Wise, “Today’s protest will be the first step in this campaign, which can only escalate from here.”
