After a day of anti-capitalist demos in Wellington, with a 21 Bum Salute given to Business NZ and a trip to nike town the carnival went back to Cuba St
The old stagecraft building at the end of Tonks ave has successfully been occupied with about 70 people, and been renamed "The Te Aro Community Centre" . People locked on when the cops arrived, chubb supposedly arrived with a warrant but were sent packing.
After some negotiating with a cop and a community advisor, a decision that the all the people can stay was arrived at. However they say that all must be out by 9am Thursday morning.
This is a call out to all come to stagecraft theatre in the morning at 8.30 to show support for the building, the people and The Community.
One activist said that recently the old theatre had been used as a dodgy storage port by some gang, these building are historic treasures of an era, Transit has irresponsibly let them fall in to such states of disrepair over the last 30 years,
Cuba St is a creative centre and a big slab of concrete isn’t.
