The Blackball Manifesto

Authorised by the 2002 Blackball Mayday Gathering

From all over New Zealand, we, being people with a social conscience, gathered in Blackball last weekend (27th April) to celebrate Mayday.

Realising that our freedoms and communities are threatened by corporate culture in all its forms against which politics and law are no effective defence, and inspired by the significance of the occasion, we unanimously resolved to:

# Stand united in our determination to defend the rights of all citizens challenging corporate manipulation of the country's policies and public perceptions

# Work together to ensure that the futures of our communities are open, sustainable and fair

# Treat each other with dignity, distinction and respect

# Agreed to share our resources and knowledge to wholeheartedly support each other and any other person of goodwill prepared to audaciously exercise their freedoms.

# Promised to work together to rebuild our society by restoring effective power to the people to whom it belongs.

# Adopted the slogan "Communities not Corporations".

Finally, we pledged our commitment to any candidate in the forthcoming election who endorses this manifesto.
