Top Maori Businessman To Assist Maori Television Service
The Maori Television Service today announced that a prominent Maori businessmen is to help MTS get up and running.
Wayne Walden, who is 53 and of Ngati Kahu descent, is the former head of the Farmers Deka group and has over 30 years management and finance experience.
He currently sits on a number of boards and trusts, including Mighty River Power and Meat New Zealand.
Mr Walden said he agreed to provide his expertise to MTS after being approached by the board.
“I believe a Maori television service is essential and want to see it up and running.”
Mr Walden said he is not interested in the politics or media coverage of Maori Television Service and recent events, and intends to make no further comment.
MTS Board Chairman, Derek Fox, says Wayne Walden will head a small advisory team, which will provide executive management services to MTS on a three month contract.
“This will include systems review, planning, financial and human resource services.
“Wayne Walden is one of the country’s leading businessmen and the board is extremely fortunate that someone of his calibre has agreed to help out.
“This appointment allows us time to begin a thorough and very robust process to find a new permanent CEO,” said Mr Fox.
