Te Puni Kökiri Considers Options for Recovering Money from Mr Davy

Te Puni Kökiri, the Ministry of Mäori Development, confirmed today that while it is seeking to recover $82,174.00 in employment-related expenses from Mr Davy incurred during his appointment as CEO of the Mäori Television Service, it doubts that Mr Davy will be able to pay.

Te Puni Kökiri said that the monies sought include:
* actual gross salary paid to Mr Davy during his period of employment - $20,252 (gross)
* an advance on his salary $35,328.00 (gross)
* airfares, accommodation telecommunication and relocation expenses associated with his recruitment and appointment - $26 594.00 (gst inclusive)

Before Police successfully charged Mr Davy with fraud, Te Puni Kökiri were only able to seek the $35,328.00 ($21,850.00 nett) salary advanced to him as his dismissal was initially an employment-related matter and the salary advance was the only money he had an obligation to repay at that time.

However, now that Mr Davy has been convicted and sentenced for fraud, Te Puni Kökiri is able to seek from him the full sum associated with him taking up the position as CEO of Mäori Television Service.

Te Puni Kökiri is considering the options for recovering any of the monies but, given Mr Davy's apparent inability to pay, is reviewing those options relative to the cost of recovery. Te Puni Kökiri will be reporting to Ministers on any recovery options later this week.
