EU Report Shows Government Must Act Now

EU Report Shows Government Must Act Now To Protect All Food Production

The government easy as you go attitude to genetic engineering is fast proving outdated says GE Free New Zealand in Food and Environment. Their reliance on the Royal Commission has resulted in the government ignoring more recent data concerning GE.

Now the EU has reported that all agriculture, not just organics is threatened by GE releases. This follows the contamination of heritage corn stocks announced by the Mexican government. This contamination research was initially denied even by Nature magazine, but on the 18th April at the Convention for Biological Diversity meeting in the Hague the Mexican government confirmed contamination had occurred.

"The biotech industry must own up to the fact that GE releases are a commercial threat to agricultural production instead of spinning PR," said Jon Carapiet from GE Free New Zealand in Food and Environment.
