Thousands Taken Off Electoral Roll

Thousands Taken Off Electoral Roll

For immediate release ::::4 June 2002

THOUSANDS TAKEN OFF ELECTORAL ROLL

Thousands of previously enrolled electors throughout the country have had their names removed from the electoral roll as a result of the electoral enrolment update campaign.

Earlier in May, all registered electors were posted a personalised update pack outlining their current enrolment details, with electors only needing to respond if their details required updating.

Electoral Enrolment Centre (EEC) National Manager Murray Wicks said 92,042 previously enrolled voters have been taken off the electoral rolls for this year's general election because their update packs were returned as undeliverable. These people will need to fill in a new enrolment form because they have not kept their address details up to date on the electoral roll.

"Anyone who hasn't received an enrolment update pack by now is either not enrolled or their details are out of date," Mr Wicks said. "If this is the case, they need to fill in a new enrolment form to be able to vote."

Enrolment forms are available from PostShops, by calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or from the elections website www.elections.org.nz. Eligible electors can also check and update their enrolment details, and enrol online.

"Electors who have received an enrolment update pack but have not yet checked their personal enrolment details should do so now and where changes are required, make the changes and post the form back."
