Green's Family Benefit A Ploy

"The Greens are at it again," notes Lindsay Mitchell, petitioner for a Parliamentary review of the DPB. "MP Sue Bradford is overtly vote- seeking with a promise to return the family benefit. That's a 'nice' idea but where is the extra $500 million going to come from? " Mitchell asks.

"The answer is, of course, the same place as the hundreds of millions extra they want to spend on increases to beneficiary rates, 14 weeks paid parental leave, four weeks holiday and a shorter working week - the taxpayer's pocket."

Mrs Mitchell's advice to parents paying tax is, "you should not be duped by this enticement nor persuaded that it will cure child poverty. Whatever you stand to gain by way of a family benefit would doubly disappear out of your paypacket in extra tax. Only beneficiaries will have more money in their pockets under the Greens, which would ensure growth in one area alone - welfare dependency. "
