Final Meal for Animal Abusers

Final Meal for Animal Abusers

Delegates of the Eighth Pacific Rim Biotechnology Conference will be holding a dinner tonight, November 19, at the Auckland Museum, and animal rights protesters will be present outside, from 7pm, ensuring that it is an incredible unpleasant meal. The conference, which started with registrations on Sunday, has been the target of various protests over the last few days, with a heavy police presence.

Animal research is a fraudulent science that has no benefits for humans. "Every species of animals is a totally different biological, genetic, physiological, anatomical being. As such, you cannot make conclusions about one species based on test on a totally different species. To do so has been deadly, and is always misleading, and has yet to lead to the cure of any human illness." says Michael Wise of Auckland Animal Action. "The introduction of genetic engineering into the world of vivisection has done nothing more than increase the suffering of animals. Animals are now treated as bio-reactors. They are genetically mutated to produce chemicals in their milk, chemicals that have been available for years from more ethical sources."

"The event tonight is incredible fitting.", says Wise, "The exact place that vivisectors and genetic engineers belong is in the museum. I think it is incredible ironic that they have volunteered to put themselves in there all by themselves. The hard part for us is going to be making sure they stay in there."

Yesterday protesters arrived at the Sheraton Hotel at 8am for the opening ceremonies of conference. Incredible noise was made while protesters beat drums, blew whistles, and yelled through megaphones. Protesters then moved on to the offices of Marsh Inc., a sponsor of the conference, who is also the insurance company for the infamous animal research firm, Huntington Life Sciences, against which a campaign has been organised internationally with the aim of shutting down the company.

Protests will be carried out throughout the conference, with various ratings given to each protest. The protest today is rated G, for general. Various other protests have been organised with ratings ranging from PG (parental guidance) to AO (arrestees only). For obvious reasons the rated AO protests will not be publicised before hand.
