The Persecution of Ike

The Persecution of Ike

“The freedom of every New Zealander is at this moment, being put to the test. How a number of people and agencies play this one out will leave us all with a clear understanding as to our direction in regards to individual freedom,” said Libertarianz Deputy Leader Peter Osborne today following revelations that an Auckland man is about to be issued with an arrest warrant for refusing to remove political slogans and signs from his own property.

Mr Osborne says, “Although Ike Finau seems to be a victim of his own philosophy, his slogans and his general message are of themselves no importance to us. However, his right to express his ideas on his own property are of the utmost importance, and go right to the core of a free society.”

“Bylaw 27.5.1 is the offender, written by small people with small minds who live small lives; people who can’t help but feel the need to control the rest of us, hence the writing of such an insidious law.” Osborne continues, “It is not difficult to see why this bylaw was passed as it removes a right that has the potential to threaten the very existence of such small people.”

Mr Osborne asks, “Where do the police stand in all this? They are sworn to protect the rights and freedoms of the citizenry. They will either adhere to their sworn oath and leave this gentleman be, or they will once and for all demonstrate their blind allegiance to a council of miniature tyrants. THIS IS A DEFINING MOMENT."

Mr Osborne concludes, “Libertarianz is the only political party in New Zealand that will uphold the rights of each individual to express their views regardless of their content. We will also uphold the right of each individual to please themselves what they wish to do on their own property as long as they are not initiating any form of force or fraud against any other individual. Pathetic laws and bylaws such as 27.5.1 should be thrown out with the rubbish as is fitting. No longer should freedom of expression be gagged by the likes of the nazis currently in the Auckland City Council."
