Two Kiwi Activists Arrested

Two Kiwi Activists Arrested: Australian Military Ship Blocked

Sydney/Auckland, Tuesday, April 8, 2003; 3.00pm: Nine Greenpeace activists have been arrested while blocking the Australian naval vessel HMAS Sydney’s departure to Iraq, including two New Zealanders.

Currently Phil Woollam of Whangaparoa, Auckland and Logan Petley of Te Puke are in police custody.

A flotilla of yachts, small craft and kayakers, along with swimmers and divers blocked the ship’s route out of Sydney Harbour as a protest against Australia’s participation in this and future US-led wars. Two activists also clamped to the hull of the ship as it departed the dock.

New Zealand activist Phil Lloyd, who also took part in the action, is available for interview on +61 438 740 451.
