Dear Editor:
As an American, I am so ashamed of my government's behavior in just about every way. Since 1971, I have considered New Zealand to be my "home away from home", and have valued the integrity of the people and the sovereignty of the country. You folks are not to be bullied by anyone for anything. You are the independent spirit of this earth.
So you pissed Bush & Co. off by not agreeing to slaughter the Iraqi's without a resolution from the Security Council. Bravo for you! So it cost you "free trade" with the U.S. You'll survive, and with your beautiful soul intact. Ask around: "free trade" is doublespeak. What you get is bondage - to the WTO, to the IMF, to corporations that want to steal everything you have and sue you when you demand that they give it all back. You get degradation with a capital D - of your natural resources, your economy, your nationalised medicine and health care, your living standard, your society as a whole. It is a pact made with the Devil, my dear friends.
So be grateful for the Jim Anderton's of New Zealand. Resist the pressures of Bush & Co. Save your beautiful country. Please.
