Update: NZ Troops in Basrah as at 2 030

UPDATE: business as usual after MORTAR attack Business as usual for NZ troops at Fortress Lines after three mortar rounds were fired at Fortress Lines in Basrah where British and New Zealand troops live.

The attack occurred in the early hours of this morning approx. 2:00 am local (10:00 am NZST today). Defence spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Andrew Lincoln said, one of the mortar rounds landed inside the British/Kiwi compound causing minor damage to a New Zealand portacom.

The portacom is used as a storeroom for radio equipment and received only minor damage to part of the wall and ceiling structure; no one was inside the portacom at the time of the attack.

The NZ Troops are all accounted for and uninjured, and the troops have now returned to working on engineering projects at local schools and the Cullingworth Bridge.
