TPK Announces Change Transition

Te Puni Kôkiri Chief Executive Leith Comer, announced this morning that the formal transition to Te Puni Kôkiri’s new structure took effect from today.

Mr Comer said that when he announced his change decisions on 20 February 2004 his first task was to appoint the three Deputy Secretaries. These appointments were made in May this year.

“I am delighted that with Alison Thom joining us last week, that all members of the leadership team have taken up their posts by transition day,” said Mr Comer.

Hekia Parata (Deputy Secretary Policy) and Craig Owen (Deputy Secretary Support Services) took up their appointments in May.

“I see the Executive Leadership Team as playing a crucial role in the ongoing success of Te Puni Kôkiri.

“I am very pleased with our strategic direction and the structural changes we have already made. I also look forward to leading the more subtle activity of cultural change, consistent with our structure and strategic direction - such things as ensuring we work closely with our colleagues based in regional offices all over the country,” said Mr Comer.

The changes at the Ministry are aimed at:

Providing Te Puni Kôkiri with a primary focus of leading and influencing policy. Getting closer to Mâori to ensure our policy advice is strengthened by knowing what is actually happening in Mâori communities. Integrating all functions. An improved and more inclusive leadership and management approach.

The Strategic Direction and Decision Document (outlining the organisational changes) are available on TPK's website.

The Deputy Secretaries are:

Deputy Secretary Policy - Hekia Parata Deputy Secretary Relationships and Information - Alison Thom Deputy Secretary Support Services - Craig Owen
