Vote Anti-Capitalist Sam For Mayor

Vote Anti-Capitalist Sam For Mayor

public meeting

7.30pm, Tuesday, August 17
WEA Centre, 59 Gloucester St

In the past year, the richest 187 people in the country have seen their personal wealth soar from $18.4bn to over $23bn. Workers' wages, however, have only increased by 2.3 percent, which is less than the rate of inflation. So, under Labour, real wages are falling for workers, while the super-rich grow ever richer. Just the increase in the wealth of the richest 187 people last year is over 100 times greater than the combined incomes of the entire population of Aranui-Wainoni over the past year.

The Anti-Capitalist Alliance was formed in 2002 to campaign against capitalist inequality and exploitation and for a new society, based on putting human needs first. We are involved in organising low-paid workers into the new union, UNITE!; campaigning against the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan, and against Western intervention and plunder in the Third World; for equal rights for Maori, women, Pacific peoples, Asians and gay women and men.

In the local body elections in Christchurch we are running Sam Kingi for mayor and Chris Rigby in the Shirley-Papanui ward. Sam is a law student and a volunteer organiser with UNITE! and has been involved in organising workers in fast food joints in Christchurch and petrol station workers here and in Oamaru. Chris is the senior union delegate at one of Christchurch's biggest factories.

The ACA candidates are the only ones in this year's local elections who are actively organising and unionising workers and leading workers' struggles.

If you're sick of a crap social system in which you have to accumulate massive debt in order to get a higher education, while also being forced to work long hours for low pay, then come along to the first campaign meeting and get involved - or, at least, hear what we have to say.

Speakers include Sam and Chris, plus Lynda Boyd (Alliance party and UNITE organiser), Willa Bermingham (ACA) and other grassroots activists
