Jamieson honoured at Government House

12 August 2004 The Rt Rev Dr Penny Jamieson receives the honour of Distinguished Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit from the Governor-General Dame Silvia Cartwright at an investiture ceremony at Government House in Wellington today. The official citation reads: "Bishop Jamieson became the first woman in the world to head a diocese when she was elected Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Dunedin in 1989. She was ordained into the priesthood in 1985 and was appointed to a Wellington parish. Prior to that she had worked with the Wellington Inner City Mission. She has a particular interest in teaching English and wrote her doctoral thesis on the experiences of Tokelauan children learning English as their second language. She has published several books including Living at the Edge, and Anglicanism: A Global Communion, which examines the shift from hierarchical relations to a culture of mutuality in the church."

12 August 2004 Prominent fundraiser Rosemary Horton, QSM, becomes a Companion of the Queen''s Service Order for Community Service at Government House in Wellington today. The official citation reads: "Mrs Horton has, over the last 17 years, been a tireless worker and fundraiser for a wide range of local and national charities. She has been chairperson of the Laura Fergusson Trust, the Friends of Starship Hospital, the Starship Heart Fund Appeal, the Aotea Centre Performing Arts Trust and the NZ Breast Cancer Foundation. She is vice-chair of the Starship Foundation, the Aotea Centre, The Edge Board of Management, the Prince of Wales Trust and is a trustee of the Dame Melvina Major Foundation, the SPCA and the Bethany Advisory Board. She is also a member of the New Zealand-UK Link Foundation."
