Marriage? Just Say 'Deregulate'!

Marriage? Just Say 'Deregulate'!

"Just allow civil unions and marriages between consenting adults," declared Scott Wilson today, cutting through the debate on the Civil Union Bill and the Relationships (Statutory References) Bill as he released the Libertarianz party submission on the two bills.

Wilson, his party's spokesman on the deregulation of marriage, said "Libertarianz supports allowing civil unions, but we would go further. Libertarianz would allow adults to enter into any formalised relationships of their choosing, recognising all appropriate contracts and rights arising from those relationships. These may be either marriage or civil unions, and should be available to anyone regardless of gender, sexuality or belief."

"This means for example that gay marriage should be allowed," he says. "It even means that if three or more adults consent they can be parties to polygamous marriage. The state can't stop adults living together and acting as if they are married or in a civil union, and nor should it," says Wilson. "What consenting adults do in their homes and in their beds is not the business of the state or the pope or the Destiny Church. T'aint nobody's business but their own!"

Concluding, Wilson affirmed Libertarianz support for the Civil Union Bill and the Relationships (Statutory References) Bill "as a small step in the right direction," but he called upon Parliament to allow gay marriages and "to stop pandering to busybodies and closet homophobes who think what goes on in other people's bedrooms is their business."
