Oracle Delivers A First In J2EE With New Java Tool

** Oracle9i JDeveloper Provides Productivity Without Compromise **

Oracle Corp., the world's largest enterprise software company, today announced that it will complete delivery of its Oracle9i generation of technology with Oracle9i Jdeveloper: a major Java tool innovation that offers application developers unprecedented productivity in a single Integrated Development Environment (IDE). With full support for open-standards development on any operating system, Oracle9i JDeveloper enables Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and XML developers to create Internet applications and Web services faster and with much higher code quality. Oracle9i JDeveloper is scheduled to be generally available next month for free download from Oracle Technology Network.

Oracle9i JDeveloper offers developers new features for optimising the performance of Java applications while providing a single Integrated Development Environment for Java, XML and SQL; business intelligence; UML (Unified Modeling Language) modeling and J2EE Web services.

"Development tools are essential to a broader adoption of Web services," said Tyler McDaniel, director of Application Strategies at the Hurwitz Group. "With Oracle9i JDeveloper, Oracle is taking the very pragmatic approach which developers need, of treating Web services as a new deployment option for both existing and new J2EE applications."

** Major Productivity Innovation in an Integrated Java Development Environment The new generation of business applications require developers to use a range of technologies, including Java, XML and SQL. Previously, developers have had to meet these requirements by using a variety of tools for each technology at the expense of productivity. Oracle9i JDeveloper solves this problem by providing a single Integrated Development Environment (IDE) that supports a range of technologies and development styles including Java and XML coding, UML Modeling, wizard-driven Rapid Application Development (RAD) and built-in reporting and ad-hoc query and analysis capabilities for integrated business intelligence.

** High Performance and Code Quality Oracle9i JDeveloper gives developers everything they need to create highly optimised and bug-free Java code that performs extremely well and scales to support the most critical business needs. Novice and experienced developers can take advantage of Oracle9i JDeveloper's sophisticated object/relational mapping technology for improved transaction performance; the implementation of J2EE Design Patterns for best practice Java development; the industry's fastest Java debugger; built-in profiling tools; and an innovative new CodeCoach tool which provides interactive feedback on how to improve code quality: all within the same development environment for the fast and simple delivery of high quality, scaleable code.

** J2EE Web Services and Integration Developers today are increasingly required to automate business processes by integrating the applications they build with other existing applications and Web services. With Oracle9i JDeveloper, Oracle has addressed this need with comprehensive support for XML integration technologies and new Web services standards including Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP), Universal Description, Discovery and Integration (UDDI) and Web Services Description Language (WSDL). Oracle9i JDeveloper takes full advantage of J2EE as its application model for Web services: from UML modeling to tuning, multi-process debugging and one-click deployment to Oracle9i Application Server. To preserve previous technology investments, Oracle9i JDeveloper allows developers to easily create Web services from existing J2EE based business application logic.

Oracle9i JDeveloper Gains Early Favor in the Java Community This announcement follows a successful Oracle9i JDeveloper Early Access Program through Oracle Technology Network. Demonstrating the growing momentum around Oracle9i JDeveloper in the Java development community, an early access version of the new tool was downloaded by more than 30,000 developers since August, with 75 percent of developers identifying themselves as Java developers new to Oracle tools.

"The developers in the Early Access Program for Oracle9i JDeveloper have been amazed at the tool's breadth of capability and unique level of integration," said Bill Dwight, vice president of Application Development Tools at Oracle. "As word continues to spread, we expect rapid and broad adoption amongst developers building real world J2EE applications and Web Services."

** Oracle9i JDeveloper Availability Oracle9i JDeveloper will be generally available next month for free download to all developers through Oracle's online developer community, Oracle Technology Network (OTN). Oracle9i JDeveloper will also be sold as part of Oracle9i Developer Suite. As Oracle9i JDeveloper is written completely in Java, the software will be available for use on multiple platforms, including Linux, Unix and Windows.
