Symantec’s New Norton Systemworks 2003 Delivers

Web Optimisation Tools And Enhanced Virus Protection

Professional Edition includes New Zealand developed Norton Ghost and new Performance Test

Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced Norton SystemWorks 2003 and Norton SystemWorks Professional Edition, the new best-of-breed problem-solving suites that offer comprehensive, integrated solutions to help keep PCs running at optimal performance levels.

Available for purchase in late-September, Norton SystemWorks 2003 features new Web optimisation tools and improved antivirus protection. The award-winning suite’s new Web Tools feature helps users get the most out of their online activities by integrating tools that maximise hard drive space and maintain dial-up connections while online. Norton SystemWorks 2003 also includes enhanced antivirus protection through Norton AntiVirus 2003, which offers new, state-of-the-art Instant Message scanning, worm blocking, and automatic removal of Trojans and worms.

“Norton SystemWorks 2003 increases computing flexibility which means consumers and small businesses alike are able to get even more performance out of their PC. The new features address the growing demand for simple, unobtrusive tools that help users get the most out of their computers and ensure their online experience is trouble-free,” said Richard Batchelar, Country Manager, Symantec New Zealand.

Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition, designed especially for small business and advanced users, includes Norton Ghost 2003, Process Viewer, and PerformanceTest in addition to the standard features.

Norton Ghost 2003, developed by Symantec in New Zealand, is a flexible and robust imaging solution that provides home PC users and small businesses with high-performance utilities for system upgrading, backup and recovery.

Norton Ghost 2003, which has achieved the “Designed for Windows XP” Logo Certification, allows customers to:

- Save and restore images from network drives to protect data from computer disasters;

- Efficiently create disk images and store them on hard disk drives, multiple types of media and supported CD-R/RW and DVD/RW drives using USB 1.1, 2.0, DVD and FireWire; and

- Back up hard disk drives by writing disk images directly to CD-R/RW and DVD/RW drives and removable magnetic media, allowing users conduct weekly data back-ups and perform events such as migrating to a new operating system.

PerformanceTest 4.0 was developed by Australian company, PassMark Software. “It is extremely satisfying to see a global company with the reputation of Symantec recognising the code developing talent of local organisations,” said David Wren, Managing Director, PassMark Software, and the original code developer of Performance Test. “With the inclusion of Performance Test, Norton SystemWorks Professional Edition users can benchmark their PCs, and measure the speed of each major component in just a few minutes.”

Norton Systems Works 2003 - Key Features

- Norton AntiVirus 2003, the newest version of the world’s most trusted antivirus solution for home computer users.

- Norton Utilities and Norton CleanSweep, providing integrated, comprehensive PC maintenance, problem-solving, system optimisation and file removal capabilities.

- Web Tools, a new feature offering easy-to-use tools for removing Internet clutter, managing wanted and unwanted cookies, and keeping dial-up connections alive while online.

- One Button Checkup, with new customised scanning options, allowing users to perform the system scans they want with the click of a button. Users can also now easily accept or undo any or all of the changes made to their system by One Button Checkup.

- GoBack 3 Personal Edition, an advanced system recovery tool that allows users to easily restore healthy system configurations and lost or damaged data.

New Web Tools Keep PCs Free From Clutter

The Web Cleanup feature inside Norton SystemWorks 2003 provides an intuitive method of removing cumbersome files, such as temporary cache files, history items and cookies with simplicity and ease. Users also have the flexibility to remove some Internet files and keep other files that might be beneficial, such as cookies from

e-commerce sites that may enhance the shopping experience.

Users who access the Internet via dial-up connections often experience special challenges because their service provider may terminate the connection when a period of inactivity is detected. Connection Keep Alive remedies this issue by simulating user activity when Norton SystemWorks 2003 senses a drop in online activity. If the period of inactivity continues beyond a specified limit, users are prompted before Connection Keep Alive allows the connection to be dropped.

Proactive and Intuitive Antivirus Protection

Norton SystemWorks 2003 offers the world’s most trusted antivirus solution for home computer users with the inclusion of Norton AntiVirus 2003. Norton AntiVirus 2003 removes malicious code automatically, protects email and Instant Message attachments and keeps virus definitions up-to-date without user intervention. With the latest version of this award-winning solution, Symantec introduces several exclusive technologies that protect systems out-of-the-box at multiple entry points while proactively solving virus problems.

Increased Flexibility

Norton SystemWorks 2003 improves upon its popular One Button Checkup feature by allowing users to select which system scans to run, and to schedule these customised scans for regular deployment. A history file now logs One Button Checkup’s activity so users can share the information with technical support or just keep a record. Norton SystemWorks 2003 also provides an undo capability within One Button Checkup so that any change made can be undone, even days later.

Pricing and Availability

Norton SystemWorks 2003 and Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition are available from September 26 for an estimated retail price of NZ$179.95 and NZ$229.95 (including GST), respectively. Current users of Norton SystemWorks may upgrade to Norton SystemWorks 2003 or Norton SystemWorks 2003 Professional Edition for NZ$119.95 and NZ$149.95 respectively.
