INNOVATIVE BOOK FROM AVANT-GARDE PUBLISHER

"COMPORTING ROADWISE" CD-eBook to be published in Digital Web Book format.

PRESS RELEASE
October 14, 2003
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lake Oswego, Oregon--A milestone in eBook publishing is coming from a cutting-edge publisher. On November 4th, Medicine Bow Gallery will release "Comporting Roadwise" by RomTom.

ABOUT THE TECHNOLOGY

"Comporting Roadwise" will be released as an unencrypted CD-eBook in the Digital Web Book format developed by DNAML Pty. Ltd., of Australia. Medicine Bow Gallery, an Oregon multi-media company chose DeskTop Author as the most user friendly program available to produce this new type of book. The new CD-eBook can be read on any personal computer running on a Microsoft Windows® operating system without having to download any additional programs. The Digital Web Book Reader comes on the CD and will be quickly installed the first time the CD is placed in a computer. Buyer's of Medicine Bow Gallery's CD-eBooks will not have to be concerned with the current chaos of changing formats and hardware standards in the eBook industry which may not be supported in a few years.

The allure of reading a book in the Digital Web Book format is the almost tactile effect of 3D turning page transitions, which roll gently as if reading a traditional printed paper book. With the large, high quality computer screens found today in most homes and offices, the reading of eBooks is now a pleasure as opposed to the usual onerous task of struggling with awkward eBook reading devices and their often-buggy software.

RomTom's "Comporting Roadwise" is more than 500 pages long, and has fifteen precisely located illustrations, most of which are in full color. Unlike the dictates of a conventional book's economics, which requires all of the illustrations to fall where the mechanics of printing allow, DeskTop Author allows illustrations to be placed exactly where the author wants them to appear for the most effective storytelling purposes. Another significant benefit of CD-eBooks is that their illustrations display brilliantly on computer monitors when compared with traditionally printed paper books.

ABOUT THE BOOK

"Comporting Roadwise" is an autobiographical work detailing the shocking story of an American hippie-gypsy who was tortured in an American prison for his pacifist beliefs during the Viet Nam War era, and who when ultimately released from confinement embarked upon an amazing life as an American nomad along with his French-Canadian born wife. The journey has cost them their three daughters--losing them one at a time to the U.S. government, and a multitude of other miseries which government agencies and the rigors of living on the road heaped upon them.

In addition to the horrors they experienced, there has also been a great deal of wonderful magic in their lives during the thirty years since their journey began. Few people who live in the traditional "box" of life have any idea that much of what is contained in "Comporting Roadwise" exists, or has happened to anyone. RomTom has told the story of his experience with poetic words and naked honesty. Without the final authority of any dictionary, often inventing his own words, RomTom's writings convey the spirituality and adventures experienced by living a robust counterculture lifestyle. One would be hard pressed to find a more powerful memoir than this fascinating, emotional saga.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

"Comporting Roadwise" is RomTom's first published book. Born in peaceful 1940's Minnesota, RomTom originally dreamed of becoming a scientist. Around the time of his twelfth birthday, his family relocated to high-octane Southern California. Profound experiences happened to RomTom as he continued growing up in Southern California's melting pot. Today, he lives in the more serene Pacific Northwest with his wife, their dog, three cats, and nine kittens. His passions include Celtic history and music, genealogy, photography, digitalization, bike repair, and an occasional Indian vegetarian meal.
