Severe Wind and Rain Warnings for Thursday

Issued by MetService at 12:36pm 18-Feb-2004

Wind and Rain Warnings for Thursday.

MetService meteorologists have issued severe wind and heavy rain warnings for an active front moving across New Zealand on Thursday.

"The main rain band associated with this front is likely to arrive over Fiordland on Thursday morning and reach the western North Island in the afternoon and evening," commented MetService Weather Ambassador, Bob McDavitt. "Northwesterly winds ahead of this front are likely to reach severe gale force over a large area of the southern North Island during Thursday evening as the front approaches."

Further details of this incoming wind and rain are available from the www. metservice.co.nz website.

Another active weather system is expected on Saturday involving a deep low pressure centre near the south of the country as well as a front. This should bring a further period of gales especially to eastern areas south of Hawke's Bay and another period of heavy rain to high ground in western areas about and south of Taranaki.
