Weta Day at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary

Weta Day at Karori Wildlife Sanctuary

Weta wouldn’t win any beauty contests but they still deserve their day in the spotlight. On Sunday 8 August 2004 the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary in conjunction with Victoria University are holding Weta Day where people can come along to learn more about these unique insects that have been around since the dinosaur days!

Dr George Gibbs, insect ecologist from Victoria University is going to be at the Sanctuary and there will be informative talks and up close encounters with real weta between 11am and 2pm, including the world’s heaviest insect, the giant weta from Matiu Somes Island!

Pack a picnic, round up the whole family and head to the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary on Sunday 8 August 2004. Open 10am to 5pm. Entry fees: $7 adult, $3 child, $17 family (2 adults, 3 children), no charge for Sanctuary members or pre-schoolers. Visitor information line phone 04 920 2222. www.sanctuary.org.nz.
