IOC Confirms Blood Tests Led To Withdrawal Of Chinese
Olympians
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has
confirmed the blood tests that led to the withdrawal of at
least 40 Chinese team members, including 27 athletes, were
tests for the banned endurance drug EPO.
China's Olympic
Committee has withdrawn the athletes to protect their
"health" and uphold the fairness of the Games.
IOC
president Juan Antonio Samaranch says he was very pleased to
hear the news, describing it as an example that the new
system of detecting doping cases will work.
