Bloodbath Imminent In West Papua

Bloodbath Imminent

For those informed you might like to skip the brief introduction history

History

For those of you that don't know, the imminent bloodbath which is very likely going to take place on the 1st December 2000, will shock even the hardest of you. So please read on.

December 1 is, for the native Papuan's the day they have choose to make their independence day, though not yet achieved, its is only a matter of time. Today, 29th November the capital town of Jayapura ( also known as Port Numbay) on the western half of the island of Papua, the air is thick with trepidation and with good reason. For the Indonesian occupying force, which have for the last 32 years have engaged in an genocidal ethnic cleansing programme designed to leave the remaining native Papua population, a lower class minority in their own land. So much so that the Papuan population has been decimated to 50% of it's former size. Not content with just killing the Papuans, the Indonesian have engaged in a massive transmigration programme, which already means that the remaining Papua's are less than half of the total island population.

Things have come to a head in the last year as the Papuans fight back and claim their legitimate right to their independence. Fir the last year they have formed a government in waiting, desperately seeking allies from the international community, with a handful of Melanesian states, ONLY voicing their support, for a free Papua.

Today 29th November 2000 The Papuans raised their flag, the Bintang Kejora (Morning Star) in defiance of the order from Jakarta. The atmosphere is now palpable, as the town empties of any migrate that wants to avoid harm to themselves. The normally bustling town has, as many more media types in the hotels, than ever before, but not this one. Everyone knows that only a stones throw away from the town, are encamped platoons of (TNI) crack solders, with only one thought in their mind - "SUPPRESS AT ANY COST" Estimates run up 25,000 armed and crazed military personnel. Tanks have also been reported waiting on the fringes. For what you may well ask, why do you need to control a people that have no more than traditional wooden bows and arrows, with such hardware. The British supplied Hawk jets have also flown over to further intimidate. Already used to kill in Timika, in 1995 they are real worry, for the Papuans. Truck loads of armed solders are also routinely controlling the streets.

Theys Eluay, the spiritual leader and chief of the Papuan Presidium Council, was summoned to the main police station for interrogation in the hope of forcing him too ask the Papuans, to take down the flag. Even if he did, this is no longer a possibility. The Papuans have already decided "die or be free" They have agreed only one thing, that on the 1st of December 2000, they will proclaim their independence to the world, indonesia included. Even if it means many more will die fighting for it. To much has happened, to many have died already, for these people, to agree to anything less. Even though the rest of the world has closed it's ears to their plight they would rather die with dignity, than remain under-classed in their own land. Full independence is the only thing they want and deserve.

All the signs are there for a bloodbath of warlike proportions and it is clear who's blood will flow in the streets and villages, the same that has done, for the last 30+ years of occupation and domination.

Tribal warrior culture of the native Papuan's would rather die fighting, than live another minute under the brutal, destructive and genocidal Indonesian regime. I have to say, I agree with them.
