Savua To Gets His Job Back

Issue No: 239 30 November 2000

Suspended Commissioner of Police, Isikia Savua will get his job back.

The Interim President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo today decided that on the basis of the report of the Board of Inquiry into Savua's conduct, Savua should resume his duties as Commissioner of Police.

It has long been rumoured, from the days even when the inquiry was going on, that Savua will walk free. Savua was alleged to have been heavily involved in instigating the terrorist uprising. Terrorists who had taken the government hostage had also indicated that Savua was to become the Prime Minister had he come to the Parliament Complex as they were expecting. His brother, Major Jo Savua did join the terrorists, and is now on the makeshift island prison of Nukulau with Speight and others.

Despite the evidences produced before the Board, which met behind closed doors, Savua has been found not guilty of misconduct.

According to a Fiji TV news report this evening, the Police force is divided over Savua's reinstatement.
