Australia Deploys Remaining Special Forces Soldiers

The Minister for Defence, Senator Robert Hill, this afternoon announced the departure of the remaining soldiers from the Special Forces Task Group, deploying as part of Australia's contribution to the coalition against terrorism.

The 120 personnel who departed Perth at 9.30am (AEST) this morning are the balance of the force, bringing the total number of the task group to 150 personnel.

Operations will be conducted when and where they are required. For security reasons, details of operations or missions and specifics of where they may be conducted cannot be provided.

Senator Hill said the best wishes and gratitude of Australia goes with our soldiers.

"On behalf of the government, and the people of Australia, I wish them well in their mission and a safe return," he said.
