30 countries and official international organisations represented at 34th Pacific Islands Forum

The Pacific Islands Forum being held at the Sheraton Hotel in Auckland will play host to 30 individual countries and official international organisations. The Forum is being run from the 12th to 19th August, and it is the first time in 21 years that New Zealand has been host.

16 Pacific nations comprise the member body of the Forum, this year inviting 2 other Island Nations to have observer status.

In addition 12 other countries will be represented at the post Forum dialogues, held on the 18th and 19th August, immediately following the conclusion of the main meetings.

Included in the list of representatives from a number of international organisations are Commonwealth Secretary General Don McKinnon and the UN Secretary General’s representative Mark Malloch-Brown (Administrator of the United Nations Development Program).

With an influx into Auckland of more than 500 people, over 1900 room-nights have been booked between the two main hotels hosting many of the dignitaries, Leaders and delegates, and many other Auckland hotels are reporting full bookings.

The Accredited Media contingent, arriving for the Forum, numbers approx. 200 from 16 different countries, and some as far away as Ireland, London, Switzerland, Japan and China.
