French judge appointed to UN war crimes court for former Yugoslavia
Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed a French appellate judge to the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), replacing the current President of the court who resigned to take up duties with the world's first permanent war crimes court.
Jean-Claude Antonetti replaces Judge Claude Jorda of France as a permanent judge of the ICTY on 1 October and will serve out the remainder of Judge Jorda's term, which expires on 16 November 2005.
Judge Jorda resigned his
post after he was appointed a judge of the International
Criminal Court.
