Israeli Jets Strike Gaza, Target Islamic Jihad

Israeli Jetfighters Strike Gaza, Target Islamic Jihad Spokesman

GAZA, Palestine -- Israeli jetfighters struck Monday morning a house in a Gazan neighborhood, in an attempt to target Sheikh Abdullah Al Shami, spokesman of the Islamic Jihad movement.

Local Palestinian sources said that Israeli warplanes bombed a house close to that of Al Shami, in the Al Jidaiyda area of the Al Shijaiya neighborhood, east of Gaza City.

The sources added that at least fourteen civilians, including an elderly woman, were wounded while Al Shami survived the Israeli attack.

Sawt Alhuriya (voice of freedom) local Palestinian radio, reported that the house bombarded by the Israeli warplanes was not Al Shami’s, but belonged to the Mushtaha family, close to Al Shami’s house. The house is a two-storey building, where a number of local inhabitants lived, was completely destroyed, the radio added.

Israeli warplanes, including F-16 jetfighters and helicopters, have been hovering over many parts of the Gaza Strip since early yesterday .

Israeli occupation forces began over the past few days a large-scale military aggression in the southern Gaza Strip city of Rafah, killing several Palestinian civilians including children and bulldozing dozens of houses, displacing thousands of local inhabitants.
