IDF targets a weapons workshop Gaza City

As part of Israel's preventive activity against Hamas and other terror organizations in the Gaza Strip, Israel Air Force Planes targeted a Hamas workshop used to produce Kassam rockets and other weapons in the Sajaita neighborhood of Gaza City.

These weaponry served Hamas to carry out attacks against Israel, among them Kassam rocket and mortar shell attacks, and attacks with anti-tank missiles and explosive devices.

"The activity of the soldiers prevented the terrorists from carrying out attacks against innocent Israeli civilians"

Three IDF soldiers were killed and another IDF soldier was severely wounded, after Palestinian terrorists opened fire at the force in the village of Ein-Yabrud near Ofra. The families of the soldiers were notified:

19 year old Sargent Elad Polek from Kiryat-Motzkin.

21 year old Sergeant Roy Yakov Solomon, from Tel-Aviv.

20 year old Staff Sergeant Erez Idan, from Rishon-Letzion.

The force was on foot patrol In the village, on a road with a commanding view over road 60, as part of the activities carried out in order to secure the safety of Israelis in the area. A terrorist cell composed of three Palestinian terrorists, armed with AK-47 and M-16 assault rifles, ambushed the force while hiding behind a wall alongside the road.

The terrorists escaped in a getaway vehicle after stealing the weapons of the dead soldiers.

IDF forces are carrying out searches in the area.

The IDF is investigating the incident.

Summary of the briefing held tonight by the commander of the central command:

Tonight at approximately 19:00 an IDF patrol was ambushed by terrorists who opened fire from behind. As a result of the attack, 3 soldiers were killed, and the other severly wounded.

This activity is part of an operational deployment in the area, whose main objective is to secure road 60, an essential route in the area. These operations include undercovered activities, foot patrols, vehicle patrols and observations.

The area in which the soldiers patrolled has a commanding view over road 60.

When the shooting begane, the force commander rushed to the scene finding three soldiers dead without their weapons (taken by the terrorists). The terrorists escaped from the scene.

The IDF has launched a wide-scale search for the terrorists.

Regarding the identity of the terrorists, they are members of the Fatah's Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades which has carried out numerous attack in the area.

Despite the severe outcome of the attack I have no doubt that the activity of the soldiers prevented the terrorists from getting to the main road (60) and carrying out attacks against innocent Israeli civilians.

I want to stress that only yesterday, in a similar activity in the area of Jenin IDF forces managed to capture two suicide bombers and locate two explosive belts, weighing 10 Kg each and by doing so thwarting terrorists attack, that its outcome is obvious to us all.

We will all continue to fight against terrorists and the terror itself, because we have no other option.
