9/11 Victim Families, Survivors and Triage Doctor Present Complaint to
Spitzer's Lead Investigator

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New York, NY (October 28, 2004) - Chief Investigator William Casey from the office of New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer received a Complaint and Petition today from a group of New York City citizens demanding a grand jury be convened on still unsolved crimes relating to the events of September 11, 2001.

Relatives of people murdered in the 9/11 attacks, a survivor and first responders held a press conference to announce their Citizens' Complaint and Petition, believed to be the first of its kind. It calls for criminal and civil investigations into thus far ignored or suppressed areas of inquiry identified by the 9/11 Family Steering Committee, 9/11 CitizensWatch and independent researchers.

Those advancing the formal Complaint currently include victim family member Bob McIlvaine, who lost his son Robert at the World Trade Center; Patricia Perry, who lost her son John, a New York City Police officer, William Rodriguez, a survivor of the attack and former American Building Maintenance employee; and Jenna Orkin, Chairwoman of the World Trade Center Environmental Organization. Megan Bartlett, recently hospitalized due to complications to exposure to toxic WTC dust, was not able to attend but is also a Co-Complainant.

In brief statements made prior to signing the 20-page Citizens' Complaint, these Complainants voiced their hope that the public will express strong support for Attorney General Spitzer's opening an investigation that answers the questions raised by victim family members that the 9/11 Commission did not address. Organizers, noting the recent Zogby poll ( http://www.zogby.com/search/ReadNews.dbm?ID=855 ), pointed out growing public suspicions surrounding the events of 9/11 as particularly suggested by a pattern of obstruction, cover-up and stonewalling by the White House and other agencies including the FAA, NORAD and the FBI.

Bob McIlvaine reported that during one of the 9/11 Commission hearings, Commissioner Richard Ben-Veniste said, "This is not an investigation. This is an exposition". Justice for 9/11 Steering Committee member, Kyle F. Hence, who made opening remarks and introduced the Complainants, said that the Vice-Chairman of the Commission himself, Lee Hamilton had made a surprising capitulation during recent Congressional hearings, "We did not answer all of the questions posed by victim family members."

Jenna Orkin said there is strong evidence suggesting that the Executive Office of the President was responsible for last minute changes to an EPA press release that declared the air in lower Manhattan safe clearing the way for the re-opening of Wall Street. "Here it appears that the government was willing to sacrifice the lives of Americans for purely economics ends." She opened her remarks by suggesting that those who die of exposure to toxic dust from the destroyed twin towers will ultimately far exceed those who died the day of the attacks, a story relagated to a minor footnote in the 9/11 Commission Report.

After signing the Complaint, members of the Steering Committee and several Complainants walked to 120 Broadway and presented the signed document and several books (i.e. exhibits in evidence building case) to William Casey, Cheif Investigator in the office of the New York State Attorney General.

The group cited The Terror Timeline by Paul Thompson, The New Pearl Harbor by David Ray Griffin, The War on Freedom by Nafeez Ahmed, and Crossing the Rubicon by Michael C. Ruppert as key resources that would be useful in a Grand Jury probe led by Attorney General Spitzer's office. A copy of each was presented to Spitzer's lead investigator, who met the group in the lobby of the Equitable Building.

Lawyer and legal consultant for the Complaint, Carolyn Betts, noted this was the first Citizens' Complaint filed with a State's Attorney General that would become what she called a "living document" on the internet where evidence compiled going forward would be posted publicly. Organizers also noted that Americans who wanted to support the petition could sign an online petition at http://www.justicefor911.org where one can view the Complaint.

The group vowed to press their case regardless of upcoming election results insisting that the search for the truth about what happened on 9/11, for accountability, and ultimately for justice, is not a partisan issue. Justice for 9/11 is comprised of representatives from 9/11 CitizensWatch ( http://www.911citizenwatch.org), http://www.911truth.org and the World Trade Center Environmental Organization (http://www.wtceo.org) and was organized this month in New York City.
