Lieutenant Garth Callender, Second Cavalry Regiment, has returned to Australia to undergo further medical treatment for injuries sustained as a result of the Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device explosion in Baghdad on 25 October.

LT Callender will undergo specialist surgical procedures to treat his injuries.

During this time the Army asks the media to respect his privacy and that of his family while he rests and recuperates.

Despite his ordeal, LT Callender's spirits remain high and his condition is listed as satisfactory.

LT Callender will not make a statement to the media until he has undergone further treatment and has had a chance to recuperate.
