New Cycle Lanes In Mt Albert |
||
Auckland City cyclists are now enjoying new cycle lanes on St Lukes Road that keep wheels turning through Mt Albert.
Road safety for cyclists, drivers and pedestrians has been improved by Auckland City’s upgrade to the stretch between New North Road and the Northwestern Motorway.
Endorsed by the Eden/Albert Community Board, the improvements include on-road cycle lanes in both directions, green colouring for the lanes, new pedestrian crossings through the central median and extended footpaths.
The new lanes not only provide an important link in the city’s cycle network, they also aim to increase general road safety by defining the road layout more clearly.
Auckland City adopted a cycle and walking strategy in 1998, which pinpointed St Lukes Road as a regional link in the cycle network. The road feeds into the northwestern cycle route, opened last year.
The Carrington Road cycle lanes, which also link to this route, will be coloured green in August to further emphasise cyclists’ space on the road.
