Last Chance To Recycle Old Phone Directories

Friday is the last chance residents have to put out their old phone books with their recycling.

The Recovered Materials Foundation (RMF) has an overseas order for the phones books. To fill the order the cut off date for collecting the directories is the end of next week.

" After that we won't be taking any more directories because we don't have any other orders or buyers for them," says Sarah Gordon, RMF publicity manager.

"One important thing is that the directories need to remain dry so we ask that people put them in supermarket bags (separate to newspapers), tie the handles securely and lie them flat in their recycling crates. Most people do this but there are a few who stand them upright and if it rains the directories get wet."

After next week residents wanting to dispose of old directories will have to put them out in their black rubbish bags or take them to the refuse stations where they will be charged for their disposal.
