Council Confirms Support For Team New Zealand

The Auckland City Council has confirmed it will back Team New Zealand with $650,000 to help the organisation manage the America’s Cup Village in the Viaduct Harbour.
Last night’s meeting of the council adopted a recommendation of the Finance and Corporate Business Community to make the one-off grant from unbudgeted expenditure for the current financial year.
Mayor John Banks says the council is “four square” behind Team New Zealand as the council’s contribution is an investment to help bring an estimated $473 million to the city during the regatta.
“We’re going to walk the talk. The response most of my councillors have got from the public is that they are overwhelmingly supportive of the council making this grant,” says Mr Banks.
“What’s good for Team New Zealand is good for Auckland City.”
