Council working with Ministry of Education on school capacity issue
Auckland City will hold talks with the Ministry of Education about the capacity constraints affecting Auckland schools.
The council’s Strategy and Governance Committee has decided to focus on a project to work with the Ministry of Education on school capacity planning issues.
Committee chairperson Councillor Mark Donnelly says the city needs to work with the ministry and other government departments to review current and future capacity issues faced by the city’s schools and learning centres.
“We are facing a serious shortage of placements in Auckland, from preschools all the way through to secondary schools.
“The council has a long standing relationship with the ministry and this is an opportunity to build on that partnership to best serve the education needs of Auckland.
“We will discuss with the ministry both their
short term plans and long term strategic approach to this
problem and help them identify the growth areas within
Auckland that are likely to experience capacity problems in
